When I started working with the TEDx team in August and learned they were looking for a dance company to fill a performance spot, Three Hearts Dance immediately came to my heart. The theme for TEDxUMDearborn was “Re-B.O.R.N. - Re-Building Opportunities, Redefining Notions.” This theme focused mainly on resurgence - how the indomitable human spirit can rise from the proverbial ashes to conquer newer heights. This idea of being reborn directly aligns with the story telling aspect of Three Hearts Dance. For me personally, I have had moments of feeling "reborn." Time and time again I use dance to work through my struggles in order to find purpose and motivation again.

Soon after the meeting, I contacted Lexie. I gave her all the information I had (which was very little at that time), and days after there was a "Yes." From the end of August to the beginning of October, I worked with the TEDx team and Lexie gathering and providing all the information about the event. I arranged flights, made hotel reservations, provided stage dimensions, details about the performance, and even set-up a special outreach dance opportunity for the company.

Friday, October 13 was the day it all came together. The day started with a 7:30 am dress rehearsal, then THD had a six hour break to freshen up before their call time at 2:00 pm. The break was built in since their flight landed in Detroit at 12:30 am that morning. The fifteen minute dance performance for TEDx in the afternoon was not the only item on the agenda from Friday. From 6:00-8:00 pm, THD headed to teach two 60-minute dance classes at Vista Maria. Vista Maria is one of Michigan’s largest private, nonprofit residential and community-based treatment agencies for youth suffering the effects of severe abuse, neglect and other traumas. For me, this special outreach program was the highlight of the trip. The students who attended the dance classes were so grateful for the opportunity to dance. Some of the students shared their stories and their own dance moves with Three Hearts. The two hours that we spent at Vista Maria was an affirmation that the mission and vision of Three Hearts Dance and the power of dance is universal and special.

Saturday morning was a photoshoot, which was held in the wood along a walking path near the Henry Ford estate in the heart of Dearborn Michigan. With the afternoon free, THD was able to exploring the area, before heading downriver to end the trip with a home cooked meal with my husband and I. Overall the Michigan trip was filled with memorial moments, life changing opportunities, and reminders that GOD always has a plan.

Finally, a special thank you to Lexie, Ursula, and Will for showing me that my part in the Three Hearts Dance story is not over yet.
